As Mothusi Primary School celebrates its 50 years of existence the school found it befitting to bring their former learners and educators together in a series of events to mark the occasion
The school, in the heart of Bloemfontein in Rocklands, has produced luminaries who are household names in different disciplines in their respective fields. However, Tshepo Mothibeli, the present principal, said the school still lack a lot of equipment in order to function fully as an educational institution. “We need a few basic educational equipment in our school,” he said. It is for this reason the school has organised fundraising event on August 9 in order to put money together to buy the necessary equipment.
The occasion, mother and daughter high tea bonding moment, is meant to celebrate the bond mothers and daughters enjoy during the month of women in South Africa. Dr.Seipati Baloyi, a lecturer in the department of childhood development at the University of the Free State and herself a former learnerat the school, saidthe event is not just a social event,but a nurturing experience to strengthen the bond between mothers and their daughters. “This will improve the positive identity between them and tocreate lasting memories for them.”
Former learners and educators will grace the occasion to help the school in it’s drive to put funds together to realise Mothibeli‘s ambitions. Mothibeli said the school can do with a borehole and solar panels, get rid of black boards and install digital smart boards, build a state of the art library and ascience laboratory. He added that there are still other celebratory events tostage in the near future.
